‘IRONING OUT’ UNNECESSARY TRANSFUSIONS

Avoiding unnecessary transfusions for treatment of iron deficiency anaemia is the focus of an ANZSBT collaborative 2010 MJA publication. Regular & thorough reviews of Guidelines continue, ensuring that their contemporary “best practice” advice for patient well-being and safety is accessible 24/7. Other reviews include medical refrigeration equipment, use of thawed plasma components, clinical best practice, irradiation & administration of blood components.

The Australian & New Zealand Society of Blood Transfusion (ANZSBT) aims to engage with stakeholders in all areas of transfusion through communication, representation and advocacy.
