NHMRC Alternatives to Homologous Transfusion (This report was never officially released as the Stephen Review was about to be delivered: this changes the direction of the blood sector & transfusion medicine in Australia).

 In 2000, New Zealand & Australian blood services implement  deferral of anyone resident in UK for 6 months  or longer between 1980-96. 

 Stephen Review on Australian blood sector released recommending establishment of the National Blood Authority under a separate Act of Parliament (2003).

 Society for Advancement of Bloodless Medicine and Surgery (SABM) founded in USA.   

Early 2000s sees the commercial availability of automated & semi-automated systems for grouping & antibody screening based on CAT and SPRCA technologies (pictured).

The Australian & New Zealand Society of Blood Transfusion (ANZSBT) aims to engage with stakeholders in all areas of transfusion through communication, representation and advocacy.
