Pre-transfusion testing innovations in late 1970-early 1980s reduce cross-matching time. New & modified techniques abbreviate crossmatch with increased relianceon pre-transfusion antibody screening. ANZSBT keeps pace & inaugurates a sub-committee to formulate best practice guidelines.

FDA licenses 1^st HIV test for screening donated blood.

Monoclonal anti-M&N produced.
