1st cases of antibody mediated autoimmune disease (Goodpasture’s Syndrome) treated with plasma exchange. Subsequently wider use of therapeutic plasma exchange as more antibody-mediated diseases are defined. IVIG evolves as the main therapy in late 1980’s.

Technicon continuous flow autoanalyzer adapted for automated antibody screening.

Low & Messeter report the use of LISS for rapid antibody screening & crossmatching. Subsequently adopted widely, reducing incubation phase of AGT to 10-15min, it remains current for manual & automated AGT formats.

Pre-transfusion testing innovations in late 1970s-early 1980s reduce cross-matching time. New & modified procedures abbreviate crossmatch with increasing reliance on antibody screening.

During 1970s increasing acceptance that only testing at 37OC required.
