1910 Herrick 1st describes sickle cell disease.

1910 Duke describes bleeding time assay & effectiveness of platelet transfusion to treat thrombocytopenia (Pictured – vessel haemostasis).  

1904 Donath & Landsteiner describe autolysin that attaches to red cells in the cold & lyses them in conjunction with a labile serum factor when rewarmed.

1907 Lewisohn describes citrate anticoagulation for blood transfusion.

1916 Rous & Turner. Citrate-glucose solution preservation of red blood cells. J Exp Med 1916;23(2):239-248.

WW1 Robertson. WW1 Battlefield blood transfusions.

1919 Fleming publishes experience with transfusion using citrate anticoagulant in The Lancet.
